Nominations Now Being Accepted for Outstanding Volunteer Award
ALEXANDRIA, VA, March 2, 2005 - The National Military Family Association is now accepting applications for the Very Important Patriot (VIP) Award. The program, now in its eleventh year, recognizes exceptional volunteers worldwide whose outstanding service contributes to improving the quality of life in their military and civilian communities.
Due to the challenges of the current pace of military operations, volunteers are playing an increasing role in providing support and stability in their communities. NMFA and the VIP Award sponsors want to recognize those volunteers whose selfless actions have made a lasting impact on their community.
Any active duty, National Guard and Reserve, or retired servicemember of the seven uniformed services, their family members, and survivors are eligible to be nominated. Nominations will only be accepted online at http://www.nmfa.org/vip beginning March 1, 2005 through April 15, 2005. Winners will be notified mid-May.
Each year NMFA presents five Very Important Patriot (VIP) Awards, five Awards of Honor, and five Awards of Merit. Winners receive a cash prize and the five VIP recipients and a companion, are flown to Washington, DC to be honored. In DC they will meet with senior leaders of their individual services, visit with their elected officials on Capitol Hill, and meet representatives from the VIP sponsor companies; The Coca-Cola Company, The Kellogg Company, The Clorox Sales Company, H.J. Heinz Company, and Tyson Foods.
